HavServe (Kristin Derry)
When Kristin went on the first Bridge to Haiti trip in March 2011, she was inspired by the astounding faith, vision, and resilience demonstrated by the Haitian people she encountered, and yet dismayed to see so much brokenness. As a teacher, Kristin was appalled to discover the lack of access to basic education for the average child.
Motivated by her faith, love of children, teaching expertise and a desire to serve, Kristin has followed God’s calling to teach children and train teachers in Haiti. From August 23, 2012 until March 1, 2013, Kristin will be changing lives in the rural village of Lebrun, Haiti. As the HavServe Education Program Coordinator, she will be supporting students and teachers in five elementary schools. Her two focuses will be teaching literacy skills in French and English (80% of the Haitian population is functionally illiterate) and running daily teacher training sessions to improve the quality of education in the village.
