Good day, my brothers and sisters of the bridge. In the next couple of minutes, I’d like to update you on our plans. Back in May, I communicated with you that we would not be reopening, even though the provincial government was allowing us to gather in numbers up to one third of our seating capacity. I shared with you, then, that your safety and the safety of our community was of primary concern. I also expressed our desire to reopen in such a way that the experience of worship would carry with it our culture, our sense of intimacy, and our way of gathering. This is no less the case or concern, even as we approach the fall season.

Our COVID Team, which is comprised of pastors, administrators, and medical professionals have been with us in consideration of our direction every step of the way. The safety precautions and disciplines are huge. If just one person were to become ill with the coronavirus it would put into motion a huge undertaking of tracking and communicating with all who were in the same room as this unfortunate individual. So, even as we make our way into a season that is reported to bring a second wave of COVID cases, we remain vigilant and careful.

However, being a people of faith, we are not a victim of circumstance. We prayerfully look to God and we position all of our resources towards the fulfillment of our mission, our vision, and our strategy. We have traditionally been a church that maximizes and optimizes the opportunity as presented. So, with this in mind, I do have some new developments to report.

As you may be aware, we are a church that has been blessed by God with the opportunity to develop our property. Kevin Aide, our Building Committee Chairman, along with the Board and Staff have been working diligently towards the realization and initiation of this large and exciting building project. We’ve arrived! We are now prepared to commence the project, and as early as late September, you will begin to see the process of demolition here at the bridge. The project is about to commence!

So, what does this mean to we who are the bridge? It means that we are going “all in” on this project. It means that, due to COVID-19, we have decided to not phase the project, but to do the project wholesale. We believe that God has presented to us an opportunity to be “all in” on this building project and, in doing this, we will save a half a million dollars, as well as knock off four months on what was going to be the building schedule.

In the book of Esther, we see Esther’s uncle encouraging her to make the most of the moment and the situation she was in. He said to her, “Esther, who knows, you may have gained your royal position for a time like this.” I believe that the bridge has similarly been given a royal position and that God has appointed this time for us to go “all in” on this project.

What this will mean, my friends, is that regardless of what happens with COVID-19 this fall, we will continue to build into this community. We will continue to fulfill the 4Gs…gathering online, grouping online and in person…as safety allows, giving through sharing resources and through serving each other and the community, and going throughout the world with the truth and mission of Jesus. We are a church that is on mission…and we are called by God to optimize our opportunity and our influence. This we will do.

As to meeting in the auditorium, this won’t happen until the fall of 2021. As to the rest of the building—stay tuned. We’ll let you know what we can use, and when we can use it.

So, for now, we will continue our gatherings for worship online. We will support each other through groups, and we will give and go like there is no tomorrow. It’s not when; it’s now. We are “all in” going into the fall and into our new ministry season. It’s going to be a most exciting time as the bridge expands its influence and its ability to love the world around us.
